SMS / Messaging Policy

Last updated: July 30, 2026

GoodWord lets a local service business ("the Business") send a one-time review-request text message to its own customer ("the Recipient") after that customer has visited or been served by the Business. This page explains how consent works, what a Recipient receives, and how to stop messages.

Who the message is from

Every message is sent on behalf of the specific Business the Recipient did business with, using a phone number shared across GoodWord's messaging platform. The message text always names that Business — GoodWord itself never sends a message that doesn't identify the Business it's for.

How consent is collected

Consent is collected by the Business, not by GoodWord. When adding a customer's phone number to GoodWord — one at a time or via a CSV import of their existing customer list — the Business confirms that customer already agreed to receive a text message about their visit, gathered in the normal course of providing service (for example, verbally at checkout, or in writing on an intake form). Our contact-add screen requires an explicit checkbox confirming this before a number can be added; GoodWord does not purchase, scrape, or otherwise source phone numbers on a Business's behalf.

What a message looks like

The default message template is:

  • "Hi {first_name}! Thanks for visiting {business_name}. Would you mind leaving us a quick review? {link} Reply STOP to opt out."

Businesses on our Pro plan may customize this text, but every custom template is required to keep the business's name, the review link, and the STOP opt-out instruction — a template missing either is rejected before it can be saved.

Frequency

One review-request message per visit. The same customer won't be texted again by the same Business within 30 days, even if a second request is queued. Messages only send between 8:00 AM and 9:00 PM in the Business's own local time zone.

Opting out

Reply STOP (also STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, or QUIT) at any time to stop receiving messages immediately — this is confirmed automatically and takes effect network-wide, across every Business using GoodWord, not just the one that last texted you. Reply START to opt back in to future messages from the Business you were most recently in contact with. Reply HELP for support information.

Message and data rates

Message and data rates may apply. Message frequency varies and is limited to one request per visit, as described above.

What we don't do

  • We don't sell or share Recipient phone numbers with third parties for marketing.
  • We don't send marketing blasts unrelated to a specific visit's review request.
  • We don't gate which customers receive a request based on expected rating.
